The mission of this 3-week course is to help you discover the aesthetic that is uniquely and utterly you. Through daily lessons delivered right to your inbox (with breathing space over the weekends), weekly podcasts, and juicy Style Exploration exercises, you can begin to refine + define your sense of style. Our class culminates with the creation of your own Style Compass, a creative, open-ended, no-pressure project bringing together the best of your ideas from the course; plus, we will look at a bounty of delicious ways to manifest your style in all areas of your life.

Style, to me, is a deeply personal matter. It's a journey of inner exploration and trust, and I would much rather be a facilitator of that journey than tell you what you 'should' or 'shouldn't' like. Tapping into my own sense of style has enriched my life, and it's my wholehearted belief that it can enrich your life, too.

WEEK 1: PERMISSION TO BE YOU.

Opening up, stretching our wings, and exploring the immense possibilities and beauty in being more fully ourselves. Letting go of others’ expectations and judgments, and beginning to listen to your heart, which already knows so much…discovering the many ways that style manifests in our lives, from our fashion to our homes to our gardens and the food on our plates. 

WEEK 2: EXPLORING THE REALMS OF STYLE.

In the second week we will dig deeper by exploring the “realms” of style: the realm of home + sanctuary, the realm of personal expression, and the realm of passionate pursuits, from crafts and gardening to cooking and travel style. This week we will also be discussing body image, feelings of worth and value, and mining your own personal style history to unearth the roots of your style sensibility.

WEEK 3: CREATING YOUR STYLE COMPASS. 

Our course culminates with the creation of your Style Compass, a creative project that will collect the best of the best of your ideas, pin boards, tear sheets, notes, journal entries, workbook work, and photos that you have been gathering over the past weeks. We will be putting on our editor or curator hats and sifting through the material looking for themes and meaningful, juicy style words and phrases. To round out the final week, we will look at a bounty of delicious ways to manifest your style in all areas of your life.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:

Q: Do I need to ‘show up’ online at a certain time each day?

A: No. While you can expect new lessons to land in your inbox each weekday, this course is self-paced, so you get to decide when you would like to read the lessons, listen to the podcasts, and so on.

Q: What do I need?

A: Access to a computer, and an email account are the only things you really need. For some of the Style Exploration activities, you may want a journal or sketchbook, and perhaps a bulletin board where you can play around with snippets of inspiration - don't worry about buying anything though; as I will discuss more during class, you probably already have all you need. If you would like to participate in the private Mindful Style Facebook group, you will also need a Facebook account, but this is optional. The Facebook group will be our online gathering space where you can connect with other students, but if you prefer not to join, you can always respond to your lesson emails - these go directly to me, and I am always happy to respond!

Q: What will I get out of this course?

A: As much as you are willing to put in! If you show up with your whole heart and mind open, participate in the group, try some of the workbook and Style Explorations, and generally give it your all, what you can get out of this course is huge: a stronger sense of yourself and your style, and the confidence to make stronger decisions about what to keep in your home and wardrobe.

Q: Will this course help me decorate my home?

A: My hope is that this course will help you discover, name, and claim your style, and by doing this, you will feel more in confident making design and decor decisions on your own. In other words, I will be pointing you in the right direction, but it's ultimately up to you what you choose to do with your space.

Q: What if I don't feel like I have a 'style'...at all? 

A: Everyone has style! You may find it easier to express your style in a different way, from how you plan your garden to the crafts you make, or even the places you love to travel. My goal in this course is to help you connect with and clarify what you love, so you can begin applying a clear sense of your own style to other areas of your life (e.g., your home or wardrobe) with confidence. 

Q: Will this course help me put outfits together?

A: No. This course is focused on style as a whole - so while we will discuss how to think about building your wardrobe (and you may find it easier to put together outfits as a result) I will not be giving advice about what to wear! If fashion help is what you really want, you may be better served elsewhere.

Q: How much time should I plan to invest each week?

A: An hour or two each week should be enough time to read through the lessons, interact with classmates in the Facebook group (if you wish), and dip into the course workbook or try some of the Style Exploration activities I recommend.

Q: How will the Facebook group work? What if I’m feeling a little shy about posting?

A: The Mindful Style Facebook group is a private group only for the members of this class. Once you are registered for the course, you will be given a link to our Facebook group, where you can request access to the group (I must approve and add members manually, so please allow a day or two for your request to go through). I will personally be monitoring the group to ensure that it is a safe, welcoming, and encouraging space for all. This can be a lovely space to connect with others who are working on the same issues, share photos or thoughts, and ask questions. Of course, you don’t have to post in the group if you don’t want to — being a fly on the wall can be enlightening, too! And perhaps after a week of observing, you will feel comfortable enough to dive in.

Q: The course fees are listed in dollars — do you accept payment in other currencies?

A: Yes! Students from around the world are welcome. Your currency will automatically be converted when you pay.
